Our Guide to Brewing Cold Brew Coffee at Home

Summer is officially here, which means it is time to swap your morning hot pour over for something ice cold. Whether you love the slow magic of an overnight french press or want the rapid speed of a smart coffee machine, brewing exceptional cold brew coffee at home is easier than you think.

Here is our guide to brewing ready to drink cold brew, no need to dilute, using our  classic immersion recipe, along with a faster way to make cold brew coffee using the Fellow Aiden Precision Brewer.

Our Classic Cold Brew Recipe

If you love traditional, slow steeped cold brew coffee that is ready to pour straight from the fridge, this immersion method is your go to recipe. We recommend using single origin coffee like our Brazil Daterra Summer Solstice for its rich cacao, bright pomegranate, and juicy tropical fruit notes that translate brilliantly to cold extraction.

Ingredients and equipment Needed:

Brewer: French press or jar
Coffee: 80g coarse ground specialty coffee
Grind Size: Medium/coarse
Water: 1 Litre of fresh filtered water
Steep Time: 16 hours

Brewing Method:

  1. Weigh out your coffee beans and grind them to a medium coarse setting.

  2. Place the grounds into your brewing vessel and add 1 Litre of fresh water.

  3. Stir gently to ensure all coffee grounds are fully saturated.

  4. Cover and allow the coffee to steep at room temperature for 16 hours.

  5. Filter the brew through a filter or to ensure a clean cup with no coffee grounds.

  6. Serve over ice and enjoy straight away or store in the fridge.

Fast Cold Brew with the Fellow Aiden Precision Brewer

If you want delicious cold brew without waiting 16 hours, the Fellow   Aiden Precision Coffee Breweris a modern take on how cold coffee is brewed.

While traditional cold brew methods require a half day wait, the Fellow Aiden uses brewing technology to speed up the process. It begins with a hot bloom cycle, followed by 1 to 3 hours of a slow drip using cold or room temperature water from the   tank. This combination delivers high, even extraction yields in a fraction of the usual time.

Just like its hot coffee profiles, the Aiden's cold brew settings are fully customisable. You can tweak the hot bloom temperature and time, or disable the hot bloom entirely if you prefer a strictly cold extraction. Because the coffee finishes in the carafe at room temperature, simply serve it over fresh ice cubes or chill it in the fridge before drinking.

Best Specialty Coffees for Cold Brew

Our Brazil Daterra Summer Solstice is a great place to start, but brewing cold brings out brilliant flavour in plenty of other origins too. Here are three more coffees from our lineup that taste incredible over ice:

Timor Leste Rotutu Natural: A deeply sweet specialty coffee featuring tasting notes of red grape, passionfruit, and rich treacle.
Uganda Bukonzo Dream Natural: An exotic fruit bomb packed with notes of guava, candied pecan, and tropical mango.
